Philippine Fashion Accessories Featured in Paris Fair

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Philippine Fashion Accessories were recently featured at the "Eclat de Mode-Bijorhca 2012" international fashion accessories fair in Paris, France. In a news release over the weekend, the DFA said fashion accessories made of leather, embroidery, capiz, and other indigenous materials were featured at the Paris fair from January 20 to 23.

Eclat de Mode-Bijorhca International Fashion Accessories Fair is a twice-a-year event and an important destination for the accessories businesses, bringing together around 400 designers of fine fashion jewelry. It attracts around 15,000 visitors representing gifts retailers, department store buyers and buying offices, the DFA said.

“The four companies that exhibited their designs were Blue Planet, Unijel, Indian Summer and Designare Manufacturing. All are regular exhibitors in the fair and have built a market base in Europe,” the DFA said. Two of the four companies benefited from the support of the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP). Philippine Ambassador Cristina Ortega said the Philippine-made fashion accessories were a testament to Filipino outstanding creativity and craftsmanship.

Fashion Accessories Creted from Recyclable Lexus CT Hybrid Parts

Lexus has unveiled The Lexus Fashion Workshop in which four of fashion’s most inventive designers were tasked to rethink their notions of automotive design for an ad campaign to appear in Vogue. The project’s idea is to find a new way of recycling automobiles’ parts. Designers have used more than 2,000 individual parts of a completely dismantled Lexus CT hybrid, a vehicle that is 90 percent recyclable, to create fashionable works of art such as fashion jewelry, shoes, eyewear and organic clothes. The items designed include:

• ‘Environmental Crown of Virtue’, a piece designed by Moss Lipow using a transmission starter and exhaust manifold gasket;
• ‘The Valve Collection’, designed by jewelry creator Eddie Borgo using valve lifters, crank bearings and hose clamps;
• ‘Nomadic Sanctuary’, a sleek trench coat, shorts and clutch designed by John Patrick, featuring floor mats made from plant-based plastic, sustainable sound-dampening material, wire harness, leather seat covers and cargo covers;
• ‘The Luna Shoe’ by Alejandro Ingelmo who used armrest leather trim and clear plastic tubing to create it.

The four pieces will feature in a six-page advertisement in the January 2012 issue of Vogue and a series of exclusive interviews with the four designers will be posted throughout December.

The collection will be on display December 1—2, 2011, opening day of Art Basel Miami Beach, a prestigious art show. BMW is another automaker that will take part in the art show. Then the pieces will be sold at private auction during Art Basel Miami Beach, with proceeds benefiting the Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund (CFDA), a not-for-profit trade association representing more than 400 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry, and accessory designers.

The shell is formed just like the shape of a bead. When the pigtoe has been inserted into the Akoya oyster, it has a great potential for success. After that, the oysters will be set on land for half an hour. This is the right time for them to open their shells which are usually braced open. After that, the nucleus will be surgically placed into the oyster which will then be put back into the sea basket. This basket provides for mobility to protect against temperature variations or predators. Changes in temperature will also affect the pearl’s quality that may lead to the oyster’s death.

The pearl’s growth, through the deposit of necre layers usually takes 2-4 years. The period of cultivation is usually based upon the size and quality of the pearl desired. Then, the pearl will finally be removed from the oyster.

Freshwater Cultured Pearls

The freshwater mussels that have the capability to develop pearls can grow in freshwater lakes or rivers. Just like the saltwater pearls, these freshwater pearls are cultivated in the very same manner. However, the freshwater pearl’s nucleus is made from a so-called mantle tissue.

Saltwater and Fresh Pearls

The so-called keshii pearls can be grown in either saltwater or freshwater oysters. Actually, they are classified as cultured pearls because of the fact that the nucleus inserted is excluded prior to the pearl’s complete formation. The limited edition collection, which was conceived and designed by Pitt and Jolie, has been in the works for more than a year, and will go on sale at Asprey stores in London, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo and Dubai later this week, according to Asprey officials.

Prices start at $525 for a silver baby spoon with a curving, serpent-shaped handle, and all net proceeds from sales will go to Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which was cofounded by Jolie in 2006. The charity raises awareness and funds to educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters.

Jolie and Pitt declined to talk about their collection for Asprey, opting instead to discuss the aims of the charity in an e-mailed quote attributed to Jolie: “These are the children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future and a place — to just be children. Yet the education for these children is often forgotten. Tens of millions of children and adolescents in conflict are not in school.”

An Asprey spokeswoman declined to comment on the collection beyond confirming the facts, and would not say whether celebrity collaborations would be a future strategy for the brand.

The Fashion Accessories-loving Jolie has worn Asprey — and other names including Lorraine Schwartz and Mikimoto — on the red carpet.
